Current conditions: (Updated 12/07/08) BASS Bass fishing was fair this week with some anglers doing very well. Fishhead spins and scroungers worked great for bass on shad schools. Ice jigs reports have been heavy for deeper running bass and the drop shot has also caught a few with margarita mutilator or hologram shad being mentioned the most. Bass have been caught at varying depths from the surface to as deep as 50 feet. TROUT The DVL trout record was broke again for the third time in four weeks and we also saw the appearance of the elusive holdover. Nightcrawlers, powerbait, mini jigs, and powerworms have been the best baits. Remember that light line is imperative. No more than 4 pound test is recommended with fluorocarbon being preferable. Dusty Parker caught a beautiful 7.05 pound holdover fishing with mini jigs on the east dam. Congratulations to Cesar Cruz of Hemet who broke the DVL trout record with a 15.06 pound trout fishing with a Thomas Buoyant on the north corner of the east dam. STRIPER The striper bite slowed a bit this week, but the trout plant on the 11th should revive the bite. Striper have been feeding on either shad or trout, so scrounger heads and flukes have worked well for striper feeding on shad and trout swimbaits have been great for striper looking for a bigger meal. Jesse Mena of Hemet caught a 13.8 pound striper fishing with shad on the east dam. Mike Krininger of Riverside caught a 13.9 pound striper fishing on the east dam with a Z plug. Eddie “Fish Taco” caught a 15.6 pound striper also fishing with a Z plug on the east dam. Terry “Pontoon “ Lairson of Huntington Beach fished twice this week and got his biggest cats at 10.77. CATFISH Catfish just keep on biting. Terry “Pontoon” Larson of Huntington Beach returned to DVL again this week to catch another double digit cat weighing 19.5 pounds. He was fishing near the quarry with mackerel. Johnny Moore of rancho Cucamonga caught a 6.5 and 8.34 pound cat fishing from shore with mackerel. PANFISH Panfish have been reclusive this week, but there was one crappie caught by 13 year old Caade Egri of La Quinta. He caught the 2.14 pound crappie fishing with a nightcrawler near the saddle dam.
